Explore a Forgotten Paradise - Old Perithia Village Will Enchant You!

The history of Old Perithia dates back to 300 B.C., when Corfiots sought refuge in this elevated area after a devastating tsunami. Later, in the 14th century, locals returned to Old Perithia as a strategic move to evade pirate invasions. During the mid-20th century, the village became a summer getaway to escape mosquito-infested areas affected by the malaria pandemic. However, after World War II, most villagers relocated closer to the sea, either becoming farmers or joining the budding tourism industry, leaving Old Perithia abandoned.

Today, Old Perithia showcases the charm of yesteryears with its collection of 130 stone houses, displaying beautiful Venetian architecture. While many of these houses now lie in ruins, they serve as a captivating reminder of the village's rich heritage. Wander through the narrow alleyways, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and marvel at the impressive architectural remnants. Along your journey, you'll come across eight well-preserved churches. Don't miss the chance to visit the local apiary and savor the delightful flavors of locally produced honey. To complete your immersive experience, treat yourself to traditional cuisine at one of the local tavernas, where you'll encounter authentic greek flavors.
